Ancient Fryer Instruction?
18″ x 24″
2013
Marble
The first piece of the new “Recent finds from Ostia” series. This curious 1st century floor mosaic may depict instruction on how to
operate a fryer. Ostia was an ancient port town
of Rome. It’s (partially) known for vast examples of predominately black and white floor mosaics. Many of these featured commercial themes reflecting local trade business interests.
